Wet Waste Management

Organic waste, also known as Wet Waste in a house comes from Kitchen. This comprise of vegetable or fruit peels and leftover food. It is a well-known phenomenon that all the things which comes from Nature goes back to the Nature by decomposition process in due course of time. If simply left in soil it converts into compost enriching the soil quality. But, in general practice it has been seen that this kind of waste is mixed and tied up in a plastic bag for disposal. Sometimes, the food tied up in plastic bags is eaten up by animals leading to their ultimate death. The organic matter in a plastic bag cannot decompose to convert into the valuable compost. Instead, methane gas is produced inside the plastic bag which is inflammable and pollutes the air quality. Tons of organic waste lying on the landfill is required by the soil to nourish itself. On the contrary, the leachate coming out of this mixed waste is polluting the land, nearby waterbodies and underground water.

Eco Savera realized that, the majority of problems are arising due to mixed waste. Hence, we need to segregate the waste and give easy solutions. The organic kitchen waste can easily be composted or converted into useful bio enzyme. The organic waste can be converted into Gold in the following ways.

Composting: Composting can be done in two ways.

  1. Home composting: Eco Savera conducts home composting workshops for residents and children. Composting can be done in Khamba, matka or drum.

2. Community Composting: We do Community Composting in areas where the Resident Welfare Societies provide us with landto do composting. The segregated wet waste is collected from the residents and brought to composting area. Our members guide them and regularly visit to monitor the composting process.

Bio enzymes: Bio enzyme can be made from kitchen waste. It is a natural multipurpose product which can be used in many ways like Cleaning, pesticide, insecticide, fertilizer, skin care etc. It is also a wonderful product to control air, soil and water pollution. We conduct Bio enzyme workshops for residents and children in Schools/Colleges.

Bio-Gas: During MCF’s “Banega swatch Faridabad” campaign Eco Savera achieved 100% waste segregation in Indraprastha Colony, Faridabad. The Wet waste collected was then sent to IOCL Bio gas plant, adjoining Indian Oil R&D Centre in Faridabad. The compressed gas produced was supplied free of cost to ISKCON for cooking mid-day meal of government school children. It was a very satisfying experience for us. But, we cannot continue for long due to unavailability of transportation.
